Petite Petals

I fell in love with this stamp and punch set from the Occasions catalogue... It took me SO long to get it, I almost didn't think I would!!! I made this card for my sister who was unwell, and because I was also unwell I couldn't go to see her or help out in anyway. So instead I made a card for her so she knew I was thinking about her!!

I made this card with a Baked Brown Sugar cardstock base, and matted the card with a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock. I then used a smaller piece of Whisper White cardstock and sponged Baked Brown Sugar ink and Crisp Cantaloupe ink onto the En Francais background stamp (retired). It took a few goes, and I was sort of happy with the result, but as you can see on the inside of the card, the stamping is muted, and that was achieved by stamping off the background stamp onto a piece of paper first. In hind sight I should have done this with the other piece too, maybe next time!!

I applied some Fast Fused, and looped the natural twine around in loops. On a separate piece of Whisper White, I stamped some flowers from the Flower Shop and the Petite Petals stamp set and punched them out- A tip with the flower shop set, if you line up the punch with the stamps once and mark the stamp set to match the bottom petal of the punch, they will punch out perfect every time, and you won't need to try and match them up each time!!!

I adhered these together with some mini glue dots, and stuck them randomly over the loops of twine to hide the adhesive. I finished it all off with a random mess of rhinestones, and a Get Well stamp from a retired hostess stampset Express Yourself.

The inside I achieved the same way, I stamped off the background stamp and stamped on Whisper White. The flowers are stamped directly onto the card, and I used a punch out to mask off the flowers so they didn't overlap when I stamped them. I also added rhinestones to these.

To assemble I used fast fuse. I highly recommend this product!! I use to use snail like it was on sale- the Fast Fuse I use less of than snail, and it has such a strong bond... Really really fantastic product!!!

The Crazy Crafters Blog Hop July- New Catalogue!!

Welcome to my blog entry for this months blog hop! I'm excited to join in again!! I've had a quiet month of crafting, with the end of term, reports, illness and a back injury getting in the way of my creativeness. All a bit depressing, so I was excited to get back into my craft room this week and use some of the new products out of our new catalogue!!

This month I chose to do two cards, mainly because I couldn't decide which one I liked more.

This first card I've created using the new Work Of Art stamp set (pg 165). I used a range of inks, Strawberry Slush, Blackberry Bliss, Island Indigo, Tangelo Twist, Lucky Limeade (retired) and Real Red. I used the long paint brush sweep to stamp the diagonal lines across a 4"x6" piece of Whisper White cardstock. It wasn't quite long enough to go right across, so I just lined up the end of the stamp with the missing bit of stamping and filled in the gaps. Once I had finished stamping, I trimmed the piece down to a size I was happy with, and cut of 1" strip. To get the contrast of stripes, I flipped that piece around so the stripes were different colours. After I had done all of this, I realised it was missing something, so I decided I would use some Iridescent Ice embossing powder to give it a bit of a sparkle. I used a Versamark embossing pen, which holds the same ink as the ink pad, but it's easier to use as it's like a marker. If you don't have the marker, you could always stamp back over the stripes with Versamark ink.
To finish it off, I rounded the corners, and stuck over a piece of basic black cardstock that I had covered with Iridescent Ice embossing powder as well. It is stuck to a 4 1/2"x 6" Basic Black top folding card base. I put a piece of Whisper White with its corners rounded inside so you can write on it easily.

I finished the sentiment with a 1 3/8" circle punch and the pansy flower punch. I used a ink blending tool to colour the paper with Coastal Cabana ink (as I didn't have any Coastal Cabana paper) and brushed it around the sides!

The second card was a little simpler. I used a Strawberry Slush card base. Whisper White backing, and stamped the Hello There sentiment from the Hello There hostess set in Versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder. I cut a speech bubble out of one of the Project Life journaling cards from the Every Day Adventure card collection. I outlined the speech bubble in a Primrose Petals marker, and used Linen thread as a small embellishment with some large rhinestones.

New Products

As a crafter, I am always looking for new products to experiment with and to enhance my crafting. When I started colouring my stamped images, Copics were huge.. I got a couple in the same colour family and just didn't particularly like the way they handle and the type of colour they lay down. I feel the same way about Spectrum Noir markers too. I'm not saying that they aren't great products, they just don't suit me.
The blendabilities are still growing on me, and I still want to play around with them a little more before a really settle on an opinion, however!! I found a product that I just LOVE!! Derwent Inktense pencils!

Usually when I colour, I use my Stampin Up inkpads and either my aqua painter or blender pen. I saw a few crafters using Inktense pencils on Youtube and decided to grab a 12 pack to give them a go... I've used them for one image and I'm in love! They are so fabulous! They colour really easily, and they are smooth to go over with some water, and they blend amazingly well! I'm off to have another play, but I will share the Perfect Peacock stamp I coloured with SU inks and Inktense pencils. Deff worth a try if you're looking for something a bit new and different!!
